Shipping containers – how to fix a leak easily

The old days are gone, when you either painted it or got a welder in every season or two. Now there are simple fiberglass pliable reinforced polyester patches that harden in UV light and are ready to sand, tap, drill or paint within an hour. The patches will bond to rusty surfaces, patches are waterproof and resistant to extreme temperatures, extreme heat and cold.. Now all you have to do is peel and patch it!  It’s easy. For example Bullseye Quick Patch are industry approved patches for shipping containers, we sell them as well ( you can buy your own patch here ) and we send them over to our customers that are in need, based on our 18 months leak free warranty.

The patches we sell and use are 3” x 6” ( big enough for most leaks ), but you can find them in larger sizes here. Very flexible and easy to use, you simply peel it and seal it. No special tools are needed! A one-of-a-kind unique product, Quick Patch comes out of the package as pliable as a Band-Aid. Ten minutes later with UV light it transforms into a hard patch that you can sand, paint or drill. The many uses you’ll find for this patch will save you time and money on many of your normally costly equipment repairs and fixes.

How to apply the patch

Identifying a leak in a container is as simple as going inside the container in the light of day, closing the doors and searching for light. Once a hole is identified, locate it on the outside of the can and mark it.

Step 1 – Surface should be cleaned, dry and free of any contaminates. So take a cloth with you. A wire brush if you’ve got some surface rust or a grinder with a wire brush attachment for more serious rust issues. After cleaning, cut Quick Patch into any size you want, without exposing it to UV / Sunlight. Place remaining material back in protective bag.

Step 2 – Remove white backing tape to expose the sticky resin. Apply Quick Patch to repair area with sticky side down and press firmly.

Step 3 – Apply patch then remove transparent film backing on the other side after application and expose to UV or Sunlight. Curing time depends on UV intensity, between 5 minutes (sunny) and 50 minutes (cloudy) or use a UV light indoors with a minimum of 51 lumens.

Repair to a shipping container is easy, even a rusty shipping container can be sealed without welding. Quick patches go way beyond just the repair of shipping containers. These patches are used in many industrial, farm, commercial and home applications.
