How Beth Hoke Built a Life of Flexibility and Freedom with USA Containers

Beth’s background is anything but traditional. From librarian to travel writer, from nonprofit work to sales leadership, her journey is about lifelong learning, adaptability, and trusting the process, even when it feels uncertain.

While today’s careers don’t always follow a predictable path, for Beth, there wasn’t really a path at all. She created her own.

A Life of Culture and Curiosity

Beth grew up in a military family, moving frequently between the United States and Germany. She credits those early years for shaping her curiosity and love for culture.

That curiosity led to a career filled with variety. She earned degrees in music and library science and held positions in school and public libraries from volunteer to Library Director. She ran youth percussion programs. She worked for the Boy Scouts of America, managed a ballroom dance studio, taught English abroad, and wrote about her travels for a variety of print and online publications. By the time she went on her second company retreat in Egypt with USA Containers, she had visited 43 countries.

The Facebook Post That Changed Everything

At the beginning of the pandemic, her teaching contract ended and travel writing opportunities dried up. While looking for her next opportunity, Beth saw a job posting for a remote sales position in a digital nomad Facebook group. It promised a flexible schedule and a way to make money while she waited to see what came next. So she applied.

“I didn’t sell my first container until three or four weeks in,” she said. “And I didn’t get paid until it was delivered about an month after that. But I stuck with it.”

That choice turned out to be life-changing. Within three years, Beth became a successful Sales Director at USA Containers, managing a team of agents across the United States, Europe, and beyond.

Leading with Patience and Perspective

Beth now leads a diverse group of sales agents that includes members of her friends and family. Her daughters, her son-in-law, her sister, her brother and his girlfriend, and several friends from high school and college have all joined because they saw her success.

Her leadership style is defined by empathy, honesty, and real-world experience. She makes sure her team members understand what to expect and how to stay motivated.

“I tell potential sales reps that this job isn’t for everyone. If you’re looking for a side gig, great. If you’re planning on it replacing the income from your full-time job, just know that it might be a while before you receive your first commission payment. But if you hang in there, it works.”

She also encourages agents to connect their work with a personal goal. Some of her team members sell to fund travel, pay for school, or build savings. That kind of motivation, she says, makes all the difference.

Flexibility and Freedom

What makes Beth stick around after all these years? She loves the independence and the flexibility.

“Even on the slowest sales months, I’ve been able to make a commission that supports my lifestyle. And that means not having to go back to a regular 9-5 job where I wouldn’t have the freedom to travel anytime I want to.”

When Opportunity Knocks

Beth Hoke is a reminder that career paths don’t have to be linear. Sometimes the best opportunities come when you least expect them. What matters is showing up, being open to learning, and sticking with it even when the payoff isn’t immediate.

At USA Containers, Beth has found not just a role she enjoys, but a lifestyle she loves. And she’s helping others find the same.
