How Shipping Containers are Inspected, Loaded, and Delivered

To help answer frequently asked questions about how we inspect, load, and deliver shipping containers, we’ve broken down the process from start to finish. Whether you're a first-time buyer or just curious about how it all works, here’s what you can expect behind the scenes:

Step 1: Heading to the Shipping Container Depot

On your scheduled delivery date, the driver heads to the assigned depot to pick up your unit. This is essentially a storage yard where shipping containers are stacked and stored before they’re sent out for delivery.

This part of the process can be quick and easy—or it can require a bit of patience. Sometimes drivers are in and out within 30 minutes. Other times, they may wait in line for 3 to 4 hours, depending on how busy the yard is. That’s just the reality of container logistics—wait times can vary dramatically based on location, demand, and yard operations.

Step 2: Inspection Before Loading

Once it’s the driver’s turn, things get moving quickly. A forklift, crane, or other container handler brings down the first container from the top of the stack. That’s when the inspection begins.

Our driver thoroughly checks the container before it ever touches the trailer. Here’s what they look for:

  • Holes: If the driver sees a hole in the container, that container is rejected.

  • Door gaskets: These rubber seals keep moisture and pests out. If they’re missing, the container is not up to standard.

  • Doors and locking mechanisms: If they don’t work properly, that container doesn’t get the green light.

  • Interior cleanliness: The inside should be clean, dry, and odor-free—ready for immediate use.

Our drivers only approve containers that meet our quality standards. If something’s not right, they’ll request another unit.

Step 3: Loading and Securing the Container

Once the container passes inspection, it’s carefully loaded onto the driver’s trailer. This isn’t just a quick lift and go. The driver takes time to ensure the container is properly aligned, balanced, and secured.

Straps and chains are used to prevent the container from shifting during transport. This step is critical—not just for the safety of your container, but for everyone on the road. A poorly secured load can slide, tilt, or even fall off, which is a major safety hazard.

After securing the load, the driver contacts you with an update. You’ll receive a call or text confirming the container is on the way, along with an estimated time of arrival.

Step 4: Delivery Day – What Happens at Your Location

When the driver arrives, they’ll assess your delivery site before offloading the container. The area must be:

  • Flat and level

  • Free of overhead obstacles (like power lines or tree branches)

  • Easily accessible by truck

If everything checks out, the driver begins the offloading process and the container is placed on the ground where you want it.

While there are lots of moving parts behind the scenes, our team handles everything from inspection and loading to safe delivery and reliable customer service.
