How to use

Step-by-Step Assembly & Installation

Step 1: Assemble the 3-Piece Tow Bar Frame

  1. Unbox the tow bar hitch kit components. The assembly comes in 3 main pieces: 1 main center tongue piece and 2 angled side arms.
  2. Align the side arms with the mounting plates on the main center tongue piece.
  3. Feed the 8 provided frame bolts through the matching holes to connect the arms to the tongue.
  4. CRITICAL STEP: Leave the 8 frame bolts slightly loose with some play; do not crank them down fully yet. Keeping the assembly flexible makes it significantly easier to align the mounting brackets with the container's corner castings in the next step, especially if the container is used or slightly warped.

Step 2: Mount the Assembly to the Container Corners

  1. Use a jack or tractor to elevate the front of the shipping container high enough to gain access to the lower corner castings (cornerstones).
  2. Align the outer brackets of the tow bar side arms with the container's front corner castings.
  3. Take the heavy-duty side bolts and larger spacers included in your hardware kit.
  4. Slide a spacer onto a side bolt, feed it directly through the hitch bracket and into the container cornerstone hole, and thread the nut on manually. Repeat this for the opposite side.
  5. Pro-Tip: Once both sides are safely pinned and aligned inside the corner castings, go back and completely tighten all 8 frame bolts assembled in Step 1, followed by the main cornerstone anchor bolts.

Step 3: Link Up to the Tow Vehicle

  1. Back your truck up to the container tow tongue. For safety and stability, drop your truck's hitch ball mount to its lowest possible drop position.
  2. If your truck's hitch cannot go low enough to reach the tongue naturally, place a floor jack directly under the cross-brace or strong-point reinforcement ring on the tow bar frame. Jack the tow bar up until it aligns with your vehicle's hitch ball.
  3. Lower the tow bar tongue directly onto your vehicle's hitch ball and close the locking coupler latch.
  4. SAFETY CHECK: Always insert a safety pin or coupler lock through the latch mechanism to prevent the tongue from popping off the hitch ball during transit. Do a final walk-around to verify every single bolt is tight and secure before moving.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the tow bar hitch kit do?

It lets you tow your shipping container with a vehicle instead of relying on a crane or hauling service. Once your container is up on wheels, the tow bar connects it to a truck, tractor, or other vehicle so you can pull it to a new spot under control. It is what turns "rolling a container" into an actual towable move.

Do I need wheels to use the tow bar?

Yes. The tow bar is the pulling connection, so the container needs to be up on a wheel kit first for it to roll. The two work together: the wheels let the container roll and the tow bar lets your vehicle pull it. If you do not already have wheels, an all-in-one mobility bundle pairs both together.

How strong is the tow bar kit?

It is built from heavy-duty alloy steel for the demands of moving a container, including off-road environments where the ground is rough and uneven. Alloy steel construction gives it the strength to handle the load and the durability to be reused for future moves rather than being a one-time tool.

Will it work with my container and vehicle?

The kit is designed for compatibility with standard shipping containers, connecting at the container's corner fittings, and for towing behind a suitable vehicle. For a safe move, use a vehicle capable of handling the load, keep the pace slow and controlled, and make sure the path is firm and clear before you start.
